UK's nuclear power reliance 'is dangerous'
Mike Weir, the energy spokesperson for the Scottish National Party, has claimed that the UK government's reliance on nuclear power is "dangerous".
He made his comments after a McKinnon & Clarke statement said that British Energy's old infrastructure will not be able to keep up with demand.
Meanwhile, the energy market is becoming fragile because of unexpected outages for preservation, while output is being reduced, the statement claimed.
Mr Weir explained: "This assessment shows that nuclear is unreliable as well as unnecessary.
"Installed capacity of renewables in Scotland already exceeds installed capacity of nuclear power."
He advocated the use of Scotland's renewable energy resources as they will help tackle climate change issues as well as lower "toxic radioactive waste".
Mr Weir added that the dangers of nuclear power are too large.
Earlier this month, the member of the SNP said that he was very pleased at the Consumer Focus's decision to incorporate home fuel oil consumers in their analysis of the energy market.
