The beginning of the end for self-regulation?


Leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn will next week be joined by two leading chief executives to give their own take on self-regulation.  Finlay Scott of the General Medical Council and Caroline Instance of The Actuarial Profession will join Hugh Donald, chairman of Shepherd and Wedderburn, at a seminar hosted by the firm’s Professional Discipline and Regulation Group.

The focus of the seminar, to be held on 24 April 2007, will be the future of self regulation for professional bodies.  The seminar will be held at Shepherd and Wedderburn’s London office at St Paul’s Churchyard, to which the firm has recently moved due to the growth of its London team. 

Finlay Scott will look at the background to recent changes in GMC procedures and contemplate the future in light of the Donaldson Review and recent White Paper. Caroline Instance will provide insight from the financial sector, drawing on experience of external regulation and casting an eye to the future following the Morris Review. The seminar will provide a forum for discussion amongst representatives from a range of professional sectors and regulatory bodies in this fast-changing environment.
