City enhancements

  • Employment and Corporate Finance partners join London team
  • City appointments bring partner numbers to 59

Continuing the fast growth of its London business, which recently moved to new premises, leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has appointed two new partners.

Angus Rollo joins from Shearman & Sterling LLP, where he is counsel in the mergers and acquisitions team.  Previously he was with Linklaters.  He will join Shepherd and Wedderburn in May 2007.

Angus has particular expertise in UK and cross-border M&A, equity capital markets, joint ventures, reorganisations and general corporate advisory work.  He is recommended by Chambers as a leading corporate finance lawyer, highlighting his role as a "reassuring figure on complex deals".   His recent work includes advising the Estate of Tan Sri Khoo on the sale of its 11% stake in Standard Chartered plc, advising Anglo American on its disposals of the Boart Longyear group and the Wendt Group, and advising the underwriters and Nomad on the IPO and AIM listing of Delek Group Real Estate Limited.

Shepherd and Wedderburn is particularly strong in corporate finance, acting in 64 IPOs or secondary issues of listed securities in the last three years.  It recently acted as lead lawyers for FTSE 100 client Cairn Energy in the $US 6.3 billion (market cap) Indian IPO of Cairn's Indian oil and gas exploration business, and it is currently acting for ScottishPower in connection with the Iberdrola £11.2 billion bid, with responsibility for steering the scheme of arrangement through the Scottish Courts.

Blair Adams joins the well established employment law division of Shepherd and Wedderburn as partner, also in the London office.  Starting in May, he comes to the firm from O'Melveny & Myers, where he has worked since 2004 and where he established an employment practice in London.

Blair has extensive expertise in employment litigation, both in the High Court and the Employment Tribunal, having advised employers from many different industry sectors in high-value cases involving, for example, bonus disputes, discrimination claims and injunction proceedings.  He also has considerable experience of corporate transactions of all kinds, particularly those involving business transfers and the TUPE regulations.  He advises on executive terminations and other day-to-day employment issues.  His clients include Amazon.co.uk Limited, ISIS EP LLP, Korn/Ferry International Limited, Bear Stearns International Limited and Wagerworks UK Limited.

An Oxford graduate, Blair trained and qualified at Herbert Smith.  He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and has published numerous articles on employment law topics.

Patrick Andrews, chief executive of Shepherd and Wedderburn commented: “We are delighted to have secured two City thoroughbreds to complement our successful London team.  Angus and Blair are proven within their fields and will be formidable additions to our business, and a great benefit to our clients.  Our London office is going from strength to strength.”
