Making a big deal of London growth

Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP is continuing its growth in London with a major autumn recruitment push. Run in conjunction with Taylor Root, the firm’s campaign is designed to attract lawyers at all levels.

The firm, which moved its city office earlier in 2007 to accommodate its growing London practice, has attracted a number of high profile lawyers in the city in the last year. John Schmidt, who joined from Shearman Sterling in 2006, commented:  “Shepherd and Wedderburn has a first rate client base which means that I'm involved in some top notch deals."

Angus Rollo, also latterly of Shearman Sterling, is enjoying his new environment.  He said: "Shepherd and Wedderburn has a high quality team with a distinguished track record in City deals, offering an outstanding platform for continuing growth and success.”

Since starting at the firm in May 2007, Angus has been involved in the Leaf Clean Energy Company deal, which was the largest IPO fundraising on the AIM in the first half of 2007.

Patrick Andrews, Chief Executive, commented: "We are expecting to attract lawyers that want to be integrally involved in expanding an already strong practice in the UK and beyond. It's a dynamic and evolving environment in which talented people can flourish, and we look forward to seeing candidates who want to make a name for themselves. Our size and client base allows us to offer exciting, challenging deals backed by an open, supportive culture.”

Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP has completed over 60 IPOs and secondary fundraisings in the last three years, including acting as lead adviser to Cairn Energy in its $6.3 billion IPO of Cairn India, steering the £11.6 billion offer by Iberdrola SA for Scottish Power through the courts and advising Teesland plc in its £200 million takeover.
