Bribery Act 2010: the UK gets tough on corruption

Timed to conincide with publication of draft government guidance, this seminar, hosted in conjunction with senior members of the Criminal Bar, will examine the substance of the new Bribery Act, practical compliance and risk-management measures and how to react when you uncover wrongdoing or are investigated by the authorities.

The Bribery Act 2010 creates a strict liability regime for a number of wide offences that are punishable by large fines and lengthy prison sentences for individuals involved, including directors of companies that are guilty of corrupt activity.

We will examine the offences created by the Act; its relationship with other anti-corruption regimes; the importance of internal controls for risk-management and as a defence against prosecution; and the Act's wide scope in terms of responsibility for the actions of connected persons in the UK and abroad.

We will look at how companies should react when suspected bribery or corruption is uncovered, issues to consider when making a self-report, responding to investigations by the authorities and developments in the prosecution of serious financial crime.
