Neil Cowan

Neil operates across a broad practice area within the banking and finance team, advising companies, major UK lenders and international financial institutions, and working closely with leading City of London, international and regional law firms.

Neil is admitted as a solicitor in both Scotland and England & Wales, has tutored Scots law for the Open University in Scotland and has previous experience working in-house within the corporate arm of an international, UK-headquartered banking institution.

While generally focused on debt capital markets and securitisation transactions covering the Scottish elements of structures across a variety of asset classes, from auto loans and trade receivables to consumer loans and credit cards, as well as traditional residential and commercial mortgage-backed transactions and a number of whole business structures, Neil also acts for purchasers, funders and sellers on loan book trading, particularly in relation to performing and non-performing residential mortgage loan books.

In addition, Neil provides advice on corporate and commercial banking matters, such as providing secured and unsecured lending to Scottish businesses and managing the Scottish elements of cross-border deals providing finance to corporate groups with a Scottish nexus.

This work also extends into acting on the Scottish aspects of property finance deals. Alongside his transactional work, Neil advises clients on the preparation of mortgage lending documentation and standard form lending and security documentation for use by lenders in the Scottish market as part of the team’s financial products and services practice.
